The
Sex Peddlers Are Using Your Money to Get to Your Teens
By Mary Beerworth
It
is fairly typical for the average Vermonter to ignore the alarms raised
by pro-lifers who try to call attention to the reality of what is happening
to young people in our state. For years, many of us have pointed out that
Planned Parenthood of Vermont is up to no good, should not be trusted,
and certainly should not be the recipient of the millions of taxpayer dollars
they receive annually.
Despite the exposure of scandal
after scandal involving Planned Parenthood (Staff Daze, the Safety Dance,
The Man Phone, the Condom Scandal, underreporting of statutory rape and
incest, and much more), the radical organization continues to seduce and
encourage younger and younger teens into sexual activity and profit by
selling those same kids birth control, condoms, STD treatment, HPV vaccines,
morning after pills and abortions. Good for Planned Parenthood’s pocketbook,
very bad for your kids.
Pro-lifers repeatedly warned
that once Planned Parenthood acquired all the abortion business
in Vermont the number of abortions would begin to rise – and they have.
Planned Parenthood gobbled up the last free-standing abortion clinic in
2001 when they acquired the Vermont Women’s Health Center and they now
admit to performing nearly 90% of the abortions done in the State. The
number of abortions has been on the rise since, following 17 years of decline.
To no avail have we pleaded for parental involvement laws before a minor
daughter, in a panic, finds herself getting advice from no one other than
the pro-abortion folks at Planned Parenthood. To no avail have we pleaded
for a statewide abstinence education program to prevent teen pregnancy
and abortion. Planned Parenthood will oppose anything that conflicts with
their unfettered access to teens. Unfortunately, given the current makeup
of the Vermont Legislature, if Planned Parenthood opposes a public policy
initiative then it is "dead on arrival" in this state.
Vermont faces rising health
care costs due to the not-so-subtle encouragement of risky sexual behavior
from those entrusted with the welfare of our kids. It is important for
parents to know that the sex peddlers are not just out on the street, or
on the internet or in the media doing their dirty work. Make no mistake
about it, here in Vermont sex is being peddled to minor children in the
15 Planned Parenthood clinics around the state. While Planned Parenthood
masquerades as trusted substitutes for good parenting, in reality they
are using your tax dollars to undermine your family.
Some states vigorously fight
allowing Planned Parenthood to open clinics and some states successfully
block PP from receiving federal or state tax dollars. But here in Vermont,
Planned Parenthood has the highest number of clinics per capita of any
state in the US. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood of VT has referred to
themselves as "partners" of the Vermont Department of Health and is the
sole recipient of all of the Title X federal family planning money in our
state. As the number one provider and promoter of abortion in the state,
in the country and in the world, it is long past time for the Vermont legislature
to question the wisdom of allowing such a radical, agenda driven, controversial
entity to hold a monopoly on the resources available to Vermont teens in
crisis.
Don’t take my word for it.
Instead, here are two links to recent advertisements. One will take you
to an advertisement for a training seminar sponsored by Planned Parenthood
of Northern New England.* The weekend event for Health Educators (the
ones teaching in your public school) centers largely around the viewing
of "sexually explicit films" – a more accurate title for the event could
be "Let’s Watch Porn for Continuing Education Credit." The second link
will take you to a description of a campus event for incoming college freshmen
that promoted casual sex, sponsored by Student Life at state-funded University
of Vermont. Not surprisingly, Planned Parenthood had a booth on campus
shortly after the controversial event displaying their wares including
condoms, access to morning after pills and more - an apparent follow-up
act to the main event.

Earlier in the year, PP
advertised the same event to be held in Stowe, VT.
For another opinion on Planned
Parenthood check out Townhall columnist Alan Sears who wraps things up
quite neatly in his most recent column entitled: Safe,
Legal and Rare?
