Vermont
Needs YOU!
By Rob Roper
We’re
less than two weeks away from the deadline to become a candidate, and we
still have a few House and Senate seats in search of candidates. If you
have ever thought of running for public office, NOW is the time to contact
us.
Last
week, we highlighted a Democratic House candidate who described his experience
in Vermont as "life-bumming." We wanted to show just how important
it is for people like you to step forward – and RUN for office.
The
response to our email was phenomenal, and as a result we now have several
more great candidates to run for the Legislature! But we still need
a few more. To further illustrate the urgency, we would like to showcase
another out-of-the-mainstream candidate that the Democrats are fielding
this year.
Rep.
Patti Komline of Dorset, the Assistant House Minority Leader, is one of
the most respected legislators in Montpelier. In fact, she was recently
voted by readers of Politickervt.com as the "Smartest Legislator" in Vermont,
and was one of only 10 state leaders from across the nation to be nominated
as a "Rising State Leader." However, the Democrat running against
Komline (in his second go-around) sees things differently.
In
2006, Komline’s opponent stated that he was "…running against a total doofus…"
And in debates and blog posts, he trumpeted one of the most disturbing
campaign messages that we have ever heard from a candidate:
"Several
weeks ago, packaged spinach was recalled. Several people died or
were sickened by eating contaminated spinach."
"I
say all Republicans are spinach!"
At
the same time, he charged that Lt. Governor Brian Dubie (a decorated veteran)
was "…just an arrogant theocratic war criminal."
This
is the kind of candidate actively supported by the Vermont Democratic Party.
As recently as last night, they were calling prospective volunteers within
the district to help with his campaign.
Are
these the kind of legislators that you want in Montpelier? Are these the
kind of people who will keep our streets safe for children and ensure our
future economic security?
We
didn’t think so. But if hard-working Vermonters – like you – don’t
step forward, who will? Call us – TODAY!
