Nuclear
Terrorism vs. Global Warming
By Robert Skinner
President
Clinton presented Graham Allison with the Defense
Department's highest civilian award. Allison was the founding Dean
of the JFK School of Government. He served as special advisor
to the Secretary of Defense under President Reagan and as Assistant Secretary
of Defense in the first Clinton Administration. As far as his current politics
goes he said during a C-SPAN interview on Wednesday, July 11, in response
to a caller accusing him or "fear mongering" and wanting US forces to attack
Iran which Allison firmly rejects as he calls for very strict and harsh
sanctions against Iran by the UN and all its member states.
"I'm certainly
not a defender of this [Bush] administration. The Bush administration would
regard me as one of their most avid critics. I supported Kerry and
Al Gore and supported Gore in 2000 . ... I call all
the issues as I see them. I think it's an extremely complicated world out
there and I don't mean to be fear mongering... I think the people who attacked
us on 911 would like to conduct future attacks. Why do I think that
"Because I see them saying that; see them trying to do that; I see them
training to do that; I see them plotting to do that - a number of their
plots being disrupted . . Yes indeed its a dangerous
world. If that's fear mongering I'd say, you know, get over it.
That's reality. The reason for facing reality is not to be fatalistic
- not to be, not to be, ah, passive, but actually to be motivated to do
the things that we can do to prevent these things happening... "
Allison Graham has just
written a new book entitled "Nuclear
Terrorism: the Ultimate Preventable Catastrophe."
In the book Allison warns of Bin Ladin's
energetic efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and the likelihood that he
will order them detonated on US soil.
He describes a nuclear terror
scenario where Al Qaeda ships in a nuclear
weapon(s) into an American port(s) - say Boston, New York, or Los Angeles
- and the rest will be a horrific history for America and mankind. Allison
believes this is the prime issue Americans all need to be focused upon.
One must ask if the Democrats should be wisely attempt to shift the American
attention upon Global Warming. Al Gore recently said in an NBC interview
that his prime goal is to make Global Warming the most important issue
for the 2008 Presidential elections. I'm certain, Graham Allison,
the dean of the JFK school of Government, would disagree.
Look Mr. Gore, and all the
far left liberals trying to pull out the national security issue and replace
it with Global Warming - Yes, its a serious matter and needs tending to
but the threat of a nuclear attack by Al Qaeda before us is far more
dangerous. Of course, no American wants to see more American soldiers
die in their fight against Al Qaeda and other jihadists in Iraq.
But pulling out of the fight for our lives there will, as many including
Allison agree, only embolden our most fierce enemy since Hitler. Like Hitler,
Bin
Ladin with nuclear bombs at his disposal, would use them against America
that he declared war upon in 1996 during the Clinton - the Bush - Administration.
We are in Iraq to bring democracy - yes - but more importantly we are in
Iraq to defeat Al Qaeda as it cleverly uses and intensifies the civil war
there to weaken the will of the American people to defeat this new age
Hitler. Bin Ladin with nuclear weapons is the greatest threat to not only
freedom for America and thus mankind - but a threat to the survival of
this nation and all freemen.
As President Kennedy noted
in his January 30, 1961 State of the Union address:
"I speak today
in an hour of national peril and national opportunity. Before my term has
ended, we shall have to test anew whether a nation organized and governed
such as ours can endure. The outcome is by no means certain. The answers
are by no means clear. All of us - together - this Administration, this
Congress, this nation - must forge those answers . . we do have no
greater asset than the willingness of a free and determined people, through
its elected officials, to face all problems frankly and meet all dangers
free from panic or fear."
Al Qaeda is actively
seeking acquisition of nuclear weapons and seeks to ignite them on US soil
thus creating the world's most horrific terror attack. Could this nation,
and network of free people around the globe, endure if they succeed? The
answer is unclear.
Are you wondering why our
Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff,is
having a "gut feeling" about a significant Al Qeada
attack on US soil this summer !!?? It's very likely more than
a "gut feeling" as there are some terrible truths we are not expected -
apparently - to handle. But John Kennedy would vigorously disagree
as he faced down Freedom's greatest nuclear threat during the Cuban Missile
Crisis with courage and frank talk to the American people explaining in
a world televised broadcast the truth of the catastrophic nuclear exchange
with the Soviet Union - And America would stand against this tyranny. The
Soviets backed down - barely.
Today, there lurks a ruthless
enemy determined to damage this country of the "free and the brave" with
unspeakable destructive nuclear force. We must unite as a "determined
people" and be prepared to "face all problems frankly
and meet all dangers free from panic or fear." All must
prepare to handle the most horrid of truths that Al Qaeda would declare
victory of a withdrawing American military force from the battlefield and
be all the more driven to deliver "Death to America" via nuclear
detonations on the American homeland. Our troops are there to persuade
Al
Qaeda, responsible for the start up and continuation of the Sunni-Shia
civil war (designed to weaken the will of the American people) that
retreat from our engagement with Al Qaeda will not "end the war" but in
the long run make it all the more difficult, if not impossible, to win.
Here is another sobering
excerpt from Graham Allison as he spoke
of Al Qaeda coming to the USA with nuclear weapons:
" ...
the intelligence reports suggest that Al Qeada may have acquired three
such weapons (nukes) out of the former Soviet arsenal. And Putin
says to Bush I'm going to speak very precisely. 'No nuclear weapons
have gone missing during the period which, I, Putin have been president
- period.' So he was not prepared to say anything about the period
of Yeltsin which preceded him. So its possible Al Qeada has a nuclear
weapon today and is about to, you know, succeed with its it - with its
ambition. I hope and pray its not. We certainly have no knowledge
in the government today that Al Qeada has succeed. We know of many
instances in which it has tried . . If they haven't succeeded
today that gives us another day to prevent it."
